On Wednesday, September 20, 2017, Hurricane Maria struck Puerto Rico, which was already struggling after being sideswiped by Hurricane Irma just two week prior. Reaching Category 5 status, Maria cut across the island from the southeast to the northwest, leaving catastrophic damage in its wake.
